Infection with intestinal forms of worms is the most common type of parasitic disease. There is an opinion that in some form more than 90% of the world’s population is infected with helminths, although this view has not received scientific confirmation. Most often, helminthiasis affects children who ignore the basic rules of personal hygiene. However, the presence of parasitic worms in the intestines of adults is not uncommon.
Symptoms and signs of infection
There are certain ideas in modern medicine about the symptoms that indicate a helminthic lesion. In reality, however, the clinical picture of helminthiasis in its entirety is extremely rare. Much more often, the disease is latent and its signs are not specific enough to be associated with worms.
The pathological effects of worms are due to several mechanisms:
- mechanical damage to the intestinal wall;
- toxic effects of parasitic waste products;
- the absorption of some of the substances necessary for the human body together with food;
- obstruction of the liver ducts, intestinal lumen (nodules of worms).
The helminths do not usually accumulate in clumps and are located longitudinally in the lumen of the intestine. Acute intestinal obstruction only develops with inadequate treatment when alerted but un destroyed parasites actively move, become entangled, and form volume complexes from their own bodies.
Helminthiasis has the following symptoms:
- nausea;
- weakness;
- dizziness;
- What number;
- headache;
- diarrhea;
- weight loss;
- itching in the anus;
- regional lymphadenitis;
- pain in the joints;
- hidden blood in the stool;
- signs of inflammation in the small intestine;
- stomach ache.
Certain types of intestinal worms can affect the bladder and cause hematuria (blood in the urine), penetrating the liver, lungs, muscles and brain. When the lungs are affected, the patient experiences a debilitating cough, sometimes separating the sputum with a mixture of blood.
Children’s worms usually lead to a decrease in growth and mental development, making the child nervous and restless. Worms that climb out of the anus to lay eggs cause severe itching at night and in the evening (during the period of peak worm activity).
Types of parasites
There are 3 main types of worms in the human body that parasitize: round, ribbon, and flat.
earthworms
The most significant parasitic species are dumplings and nematodes. Infection with these helminths accounts for 80% of all helminthiasis found in the former CIS countries.
These worms are of different sexes, relatively small in body size (1-2 to tens of centimeters), and are infected by the fecal-oral route.
Tapeworms
These are the largest of all parasitic worms. The most famous members of the group, the porcine and bovine tapeworms, can reach a length of 10-15 meters.
The parasites multiply without the involvement of the second individual. The egg is released into the environment along with the patient's feces.
flatworms
Small representatives of helminths that usually live in the bile and liver ducts.
Residents of endemic areas may not have the symptoms of the disease for years. Infection of a person who has not previously been in contact with the parasite leads to severe liver disease. It can cause hepatitis, gallstones and other symptoms.
Echinococcus
Echinococcus is the only tapeworm that uses humans as an intermediate host.
In this case, the larvae of the parasite enter the bloodstream, spread throughout the body, and settle in the tissues and then begin to grow. Echinococcus cysts are formed. In this case, tablets of worms intended for humans or animals are practically useless. The Finns are removed immediately.
Pills for worms for adults
The vast majority of today's popular anthelmintic drugs are made from one of three main substances: mebendazole, albendazole, or levamisole.
based on mebendazole
It is a broad-spectrum drug prescribed to patients with enterobiasis, ascariasis, ankylostomidosis, trichuriasis, teniasis, echinococcosis, and other helminthic invasions.
The side effects are as follows:
- nausea;
- abdominal pain;
- What number;
- headache;
- an increase in the amount of liver enzymes in the blood.
Contraindicated in pregnant and lactating mothers, children under 2 years of age, patients with liver disease and alcohol dependence (during grand drinking). When prescribing these funds, no laxative is prescribed.
Albendazole based
The devices have a wide spectrum of action, allowing them to achieve a therapeutic effect in ascariasis, enterobiasis, tapeworm infection and flat parasites. It is used to treat echinococcosis when surgery is not possible.
The drug is contraindicated in pregnancy, lactation, younger children, retinal pathology and non-helminthic lesions of the liver. Side effects include nausea, vomiting, and other signs of toxic syndrome that are common to almost all anthelmintic medications.
It is based on levamisole
It is infected with the most effective fungal worms and tapeworms. Other helminthic diseases also have the desired effect, but treatment may take longer than with analogues.
The drugs have immunostimulatory properties and can be used in moderate immunodeficiency.
Levamisole-based agents are contraindicated in the following cases:
- pregnancy;
- breast-feeding;
- childhood;
- alcoholism in the immoderate phase;
- liver disease;
- agranulocytosis.
Levamisole and its derivatives may cause agranulocytosis, nausea, vomiting, depression, dermatitis, and anorexia during long-term treatment.
Tablets and suspensions for children
The treatment of helminthiasis in children older than 3-4 years can usually be done with the same medicines that are prescribed for adults. In this case, the dose of the medicine should be adjusted according to the age of the child.
You should know that the suspension can be prepared from any tableted agent to facilitate administration. To do this, break the required amount of medicine into a powder, add it to the required amount of drinking water and mix thoroughly.
Homemade suspensions should not be administered in the same manner as factory dosage forms. Weigh the required amount of medicine before preparing the suspension.
Folk recipes against worms
When answering questions about expelling worms from a child or adult, folk treatment methods should not be mentioned.
pumpkin seeds
Pumpkin seeds contain cucurbitin, which is harmful to worms. The device is effective in almost all intestinal helminthiasis. Some sources suggest that the effect of cucurbitin extends to extraintestinal intestinal worms.
Pumpkin seeds should only be eaten raw. Heat treatment destroys the active ingredients in them. In addition, removing the shell is not recommended. It is better to crush the seeds together with the shell in a blender. For easier use, the mass can be poured with milk.
Carrot
Carrots do not need to be used on their own to treat helminthiasis because they do not have enough effectiveness. However, carrots are suitable as a prophylaxis and as an adjunct in the presence of basic therapy.
You can use carrots in any form that does not require heat treatment. It is best if the dishes containing vegetables contain pepper or spicy spices (Korean-style carrots). The plant is given to children in raw, purified form.
Canvas
You can remove worms from the intestines using plain or black flax. Flaxseed can be used crushed and mixed with cinnamon. However, it is better to use them as an infusion. To prepare 1-2 teaspoons. pour the spoons of the seeds smashed in the blender into a glass of boiling water and allow to infuse. After a few hours, the product should be filtered and taken 100 ml twice daily on an empty stomach. The process of treatment lasts until the parasite eggs are no longer found in the feces.
Chamomile decoction
Chamomile decoction can be used in almost unlimited amounts. It has no direct anthelmintic effect, but it promotes the healing of microcracks in the intestinal mucosa due to intestinal worm activity.
In addition, chamomile contains huge amounts of vitamins, natural immunostimulants and other beneficial substances.
Garlic
Garlic is one of the best anthelmintic plants. You can use it in pure form, but also mixed with milk. The mixture is prepared by squeezing 10-12 drops of garlic juice into a glass of warm boiled milk. Garlic milk should be drunk in the morning on an empty stomach for 1-2 weeks. In the future, garlic is recommended to prevent re-invasion and improve immunity.
Hemp and linseed oil
Hemp, flaxseed, sea buckthorn, cedar and other oils are also anti-worm.
When removing worms with folk remedies, the oil should be administered twice a day, preferably on an empty stomach, 1 teaspoon shortly before a meal. The relative contraindication to the use of this method is severe dyspepsia accompanied by severe diarrhea. Fasteners must be taken before starting oil treatment.
Tansy
Tansy is one of the most popular anthelmintic drugs recognized by both folk and traditional medicine.
For the treatment of helminth infection, the plant can be consumed in the form of a powder (orally, 0, 7-1 g once a day for a week) or in the form of an aqueous decoction. In addition, the inflorescence is part of a number of complex therapies (troychatka).
Tansy is strictly contraindicated for pregnant women and children under 12 years of age!
Troychatka
The composition of the so-called "troychatka" contains 1 g of tansy, 0. 5 g of cloves and 0. 3 g of wormwood. All components are crushed to a powder and mixed. The mixture should be used in pure form. In this case, the dose of the drug should be increased gradually, starting from 0, 7-0, 8 grams per day. The herbs can be mixed with food for ease of use. The composition is taken for several months.
sage
Wormwood is often used to treat helminthiasis in adults in the form of an alcoholic tincture. To do this, the dried grass is crushed, the required amount of powder is weighed out and poured with vodka in a 1: 3 ratio. The tincture is ready for use in 2-3 weeks. 30-50 grams should be taken on an empty stomach twice a day.
In childhood, wormwood tincture is replaced by infusion, where pure drinking water is used instead of alcohol. The frequency and duration of the bet will not change.
Worm enema recipes
Enema of helminthiasis can remove parasites that have migrated to the rectum for reproduction. Garlic, soda enema and tansy enema are used.
Enema with garlic
Garlic decoction is used to set the enema. Pour a few cloves of the plant with water and boil for 2-3 minutes. The garlic pulp is then removed, the broth is cooled, filtered and injected into the rectum with a syringe.
Garlic enema should not be given to children under 3 years of age. Also, this type of treatment is useless for tissue parasites, tapeworms, localized in the liver ducts, tapeworms. The procedure is performed before going to bed. It is recommended to apply a cleaning enema beforehand.
soda enema
The solution is prepared from a glass of water and 0. 5 teaspoons of baking soda. Dissolve the powder and boil for five minutes. After cooling, the solution is filtered and injected into the rectum before going to bed.
There is no age limit here. To adjust the enema for very young children, its volume should be compared to the size of the child’s body. The treatment process consists of 6-7 procedures.
Enema with tansy
The solution is made from crushed tansy inflorescence. To do this, pour 2-3 tablespoons of powder with a glass of boiling water and insist for half an hour. The solution is then filtered through gauze and injected into the rectum. The duration of treatment is 1-2 weeks.
Tansy enema is contraindicated for children under 14 years of age!
Prevention
Clean hands are the basis for preventing worms. Therefore, the child, like the adult, must follow the basic rules of personal hygiene.
The second principle of prevention is an annual medical examination with mandatory examination of the feces for the presence of helminths. Preventive treatment is recommended only in the absence of contraindications and the use of low toxic agents. Otherwise, highly toxic drugs do more harm than good!
